Columbus, OH, and Boston, (March 18, 2025) – Akita Biosciences is proud to have been named to Fast Company’s prestigious list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies of 2025. This year’s list shines a spotlight on businesses that are shaping industry and culture through their innovations, setting new standards, and achieving remarkable milestones in all sectors of the economy.
Good hygiene is fundamental to wellness. We wash our hands and brush our teeth daily, yet we overlook our nose—a primary entry point for airborne contaminants. Profi Nasal Spray helps fill this critical gap as an advanced, on-the-go solution for nasal hygiene, cleansing the nasal passages of airborne contaminants.
In its announcement, Fast Company highlighted the recent publication of Akita’s nasal technology in the prestigious scientific journal Advanced Materials. The peer-reviewed study reports extensive preclinical research demonstrating its potential beyond nasal hygiene, with applications in both drug and medical device development. Titled ‘Toward a Radically Simple Multi-Modal Nasal Spray for Preventing Respiratory Infections’, the study showcases Akita’s breakthrough approach, which forms a gel-like barrier to capture, block, and neutralize airborne pathogens for several hours.
The groundbreaking technology behind Akita’s platform was developed by Harvard biomedical engineers Dr. Jeff Karp and Dr. Nitin Joshi, co-founders of Akita Biosciences and members of its Scientific Advisory Board, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). Dr. Karp serves as an Endowed Chair and Professor, and Dr. Joshi is an Assistant Professor at BWH.
With its innovative approach to nasal hygiene and potential broader health applications, Akita is redefining how people think about respiratory health and wellness.
“Being recognized by Fast Company is an incredible honor and a testament to our team’s commitment to transforming respiratory health with drug-free, targeted nasal solutions,” said Alex Revelos, CEO and co-founder of Akita Biosciences. "At Akita, our vision is to redefine preventive health by developing science-backed technologies that work in harmony with the body’s natural defenses—helping people stay ahead of airborne threats like viruses, allergens, and irritants in a simple, effective way."
The World’s Most Innovative Companies stands as Fast Company’s hallmark franchise and one of its most anticipated editorial efforts of the year. To determine honorees, Fast Company’s editors and writers review companies driving progress around the world and across industries, evaluating thousands of submissions through a competitive application process. The result is a globe-spanning guide to innovation today, from early-stage startups to some of the most valuable companies in the world.
“Our list of the Most Innovative Companies offers both a comprehensive look at innovation today and a playbook for the future,” said Fast Company editor-in-chief Brendan Vaughan. “This year, we recognize companies that are harnessing AI in deep and meaningful ways, brands that are turning customers into superfans by overdelivering for them, and challengers that are introducing bold ideas and vital competition to their industries. At a time when the world is rapidly shifting, these companies are charting the way forward.”
